![]() It required a lot of pre-planning and coordination with other departments, and it turned out to be an amazing event. My most memorable moment from my time in the Voyage Program was running the “Bourbon Battle” at our hotel. From assisting with menu design, to implementing a new restaurant concept, to cross training in the banquet department, to shadowing others on property, and to managing my own team, I gained knowledge that I will take with me through the rest of my career. I was exposed to so many different facets of Food & Beverage and was given the opportunity to take the lead on initiatives and execute my own projects and ideas. It’s hands-on and lots of hard work, but it’s rewarding! This program opens you up to experiences that will help you grow both professionally and personally. The love that associates have for the company was inspiring and motivating. I applied for the Voyage Program in September of my senior year, and after one meeting with the recruiter, I knew that I had to work for the company. It’s an industry that is bursting with people who are passionate, hardworking, and have a genuine interest in helping others. Working in the hospitality industry is not your average job it’s a lifestyle. It has showed me how to become a leader and how to work with employees in all departments. This program has encouraged me to ask questions and step out of my comfort zone. From the vigorous online Voyage training, to joining the great “Life at Marriott” Snapchat team, to one-on-one meetings with my coach and champions, I have learned a great deal. When I began working with recruiters at local colleges, I realized I had a passion for helping others with their future careers. I have built relationships with the associates, while learning aspects from each department that will assist me further in my career. As an Events Voyager, I had the opportunity to work in 11 different departments, such as Housekeeping, Front Desk, and Special Events. I have learned a lot about myself and where I need to improve. It has enhanced my understanding of the hotel industry, which has improved my knowledge of what it takes to succeed at Marriott. My experience in the Voyage Program has been one of the best yet most challenging experiences of my life. The work environment is great, and everyone with no exception contributed to my successful integration into the hotel. ![]() I was able to understand how owner relations develop and how important they are to our work. Having a background in construction and civil engineering, I was fortunate enough to contribute directly to the successful renovation of 80 rooms and other “back of the house” areas, as well as promoting new use for unexplored public spaces. Our work in the hotel has been focused on developing the Kaizen/3s methodology in the department as well as running the day-to-day maintenance. I have been very impressed with the level of training available to me. ![]() The Engineering team was excellent in introducing me to the discipline as well as showing me around the facility. My Voyage experience began when I started working at the Lisbon Marriott Hotel as an Assistant Chief Engineer.
